EPFL Life Science Symposium 2007
Registration Deadline EXTENDED: July 1st 2007
The EPFL School of Life Sciences was
created some five years ago echoing the thirst for biologically relevant
questions amongst EPFL scientists specializing in chemistry, physics,
mathematics, computer science, engineering and other EPFL strongholds.
Capitalizing on its initial development in neuroscience (under the
auspices of the Brain Mind Institute)
and biotechnology (led by the Institute of
Bioengineering), the School of Life Sciences has now matured into a
four-institutes entity, as 2005 witnessed the joining of ISREC (the world renowned Swiss
Institute for Experimental Cancer Research) and the launching of the Global Health Institute. It is also the
cradle of three Ph.D. programs in "Biotechnology
and Bioengineering", "Neurosciences"
and "Cellular and
Molecular Biology of Cancer" contributing, next to our growing Bachelor and Master programs, to a
lively, dynamic and interdisciplinary academic environment dedicated to
world class education and research in Life Sciences.
In this context, a series of annual Life Science Symposia has been launched, with the purpose of welcoming top scientists from all over the world at our lakeside campus during three days, to discuss research issues and results in a field alternating between Cancer research (even years) and other life science fields represented at EPFL (odd years).
After a very successful first edition in 2006, the ISREC Conference on Cancer Research, held on Oct. 11-13th, this year's symposium is dedicated to Neuroscience.
It will take place at EPFL for three days from Wednesday, Aug. 29th to Friday, Aug. 31st, 2007, which is a wonderful time in the beautiful area of Lake Geneva. There will also be opportunities to visit the Brain Mind Institute and interact with faculty, post docs (about 50) and graduate students (about 60).
The conference program comprises several hot topics in neurosciences presented in 5 sessions. The meeting is also open to participation by researchers and students. There will be posters presented by participants, a presentation of an international scientific Prize - the Debiopharm Life Sciences Award - as well as a conference banquet.
